第一條手作褲子

好友CH給我寄來了一本縫紉衣服的學習書籍當做聖誕禮物，我看著很有興趣，但是又覺得實在太挑戰了，所以我就捧著書去找擅長縫紉的鄰居Katrin。其實我本來只是想要請教她值不值得投資一台縫紉機與縫紉機價差很大到底有什麼分別？結果她竟然很熱情的說她要用她多餘的布料縫條最簡單的褲子給我看。結果她所謂「縫給我看」的意思，其實是指導我縫一件的意思。因此我在她口頭的指導之下，獨立完成這個從剪布直到成品的「勒勒的睡褲」，在四個孩子（我們家兩個、Katrin兩個）的不斷干擾下，共計花了我們四個小時。

路路看到媽媽縫褲子，一直很期待又熱切的說「這是給我的嗎？」雖然褲子是照著哥哥的尺碼作的，路路還是堅持要穿著離開Katrin阿姨家。勒勒穿著這條睡褲也特別得意。縫紉雖然煞費功夫、但是也覺得特別有成就感，有一種衝動想要買一台縫紉機來玩，但是龍龍即將出世，考量現實條件實在是不允許，看來我要培養這個嗜好恐怕還要等上好幾年了。

雖然真是一條平凡無奇的睡褲，但是可以給孩子手作衣服，有一種莫名的成就感。

Being encouraged by my loving friend, Chiahsuan, and being taught by my talented neighbor, Katrin, I made the first sewing project in my life.

I am not good at sewing at all. I still remember when I was worried about my cooking, sewing, and cleaning house abilities before I got married. After several years of marriage, I got used to using my fair sewing techniques to do some useful work. Most of the time, I change Sean and Lyla’s pants waist and length with a really convenient but untidy way. Sometimes, I fix the torn parts of clothes or bed sheets.

About two months ago, I changed two regular shirts I got in the thrift shop into breast-feeding clothes by adding a cotton cloth inside of the original clothes. I was very excited about the project and posted it on my blog. I bet Chiahsuan read that article. She sent me a sewing guide as a Christmas gift.

I was very excited about the book. However, I realized the book was way too difficult for me to understand. That was why I brought it to ask Katrin’s help. Katrin generously offered to teach me sewing a basic pair of pants.

After almost four hours of hard work, with a lots of kids’ interruptions, the pants were done. I finally realized it took a long time to finish a very simple pair of pants. We started from cutting cloth by matching it with the pattern, and sewing four pieces of cloth together with lines and zigzag sewing methods. It was lots of work for just a simple pair of pants: ironing the waist and the end of the pants, closing the end of the cloth by using lines and back and forth sewing methods to make it stronger, inserting an elastic band, etc.

I was very excited and satisfied about my first sewing project. Sean enjoyed wearing it as a symbol of his mommy’s love. Lyla wanted to wear it, too. Although it is way too long for her, she still insisted on wearing it for a while. It is a pity that I do not have enough energy and time to make Lyla another one. I hope I have chance to make her a dress in the future.
